Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji holds a PhD in Political Science from Central European University, Budapest. He is presently a Research Fellow at the Institute for Development Studies, University of Nigeria.

Before joining University of Nigeria in 2010, he was a lecturer at the Department of Political Science, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki.

Dr. Orji has been a Fellow at the Alexander Von Humboldt Foundation at the Institute of African Affairs, German Institute of Global and Area Studies, Hamburg; Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute of Federalism, Fribourg; and Guest Researcher at the Nordic African Institute, Uppsala.

He has served as Election and Democratic Governance Expert to several organization and consulted for several Civil Society Organisations.

He has authored several articles on Nigerian Politics and Society; “Power-Sharing in Nigeria: Conception and Implementation, and Continuity” (2009), “Making Democracy Safe: Policies Tackling Electoral Violence in Africa”, (2013), “Use of Social Media in Nigeria’s 2011 General Elections” (2013) amongst others. He co-edited a book on Voter Education.

Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji is actively involved in several learned association including; Nigerian Political Science Association, International Political Science Association (IPSA), Council for Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) and African Studies Association (ASA)

Dr.Nkwachukwu Orji was a consultant to the Constitution and Electoral Committee known as the Nnamani Electoral Reforms Committee.

He was appointed Resident Electoral Commissioner in July, 2017 and is presently the Resident Electoral Commissioner Anambra State.
